Town Hall Media and Press Kit

Second Chance Town Hall Mission:

Educate the Community on the value of helping past felons, drug addicts, and other distressed individuals become entrepreneurs and start their own businesses. Discuss existing bias against those who want to return and are capable of becoming, positive Community contributors. show how helping these people actually help build a better community, both economically and socially. And also discuss and demonstrate ways we can help our kids before these issues become a problem.

Purpose:

We believe that an active Neighborhood program is needed to show the value of supporting those who have recovered or served their time and are ready to use their God-given talents to succeed. Because the current system continues to punish drug and felony offenders long after they have paid their dues to society, our current system actually encourages offenders to return to previous ways. With a 75% recidivism rate after 5 years, we are failing, as a society, to provide the proper balance so that recovered talent can choose a society-productive path, These Neighborhood Town Halls will demonstrate, at a grass roots level, through RSC-supported entrepreneurs, what all of us can do to make our neighborhoods better and safer places to live.

We believe we have to create success from within. That means providing support to needy entrepreneurs and future neighborhood leaders, no matter how rich or poor their community is. Neighbors must gain confidence in themselves and create Role Models who become role models because they are doing good things for the Community. We need a new set of heroes for our youth to look up to. In too many cases, peer pressure is pointing them in the wrong direction. We are attempting to help neighborhoods create the environment through which they can change attitudes for the better, allowing them to succeed and flourish.

The Town Hall Meetings:

The Town Halls will have a broad representation to help out new entrepreneurs show the audiences why it is so important that people like them succeed. RSC entrepreneurs like Lamonte Gwynn will be featured

The Founders and Sponsors

Real Second Chance, Voter's Education Coalition for Central Florida , Ted's Community and Influence business Club have come together to provide these Town Halls. Each has strong reasons to be a partner. RSC wants to help make the Lamontes of the world successful, Joe Lopez, running for Orange County Sheriff and Principal Law Enforcement Speaker for our Town Hall Series, sees the RSC entrepreneurs as examples of people we need to try to help so as to minimize future crime issues. VECCF wants to encourage people to hear what the RSC Candidates are doing, and in that learning, encourage people to get out and vote in support of them.

In early August, 2019, Ted's Community began promoting the importance of creating entrepreneurs in needy neighborhoods. TC created CONTESTS for neighbors to make suggestions on how to improve their communities and identify local heroes. Awards will be presented at each Town Hall meeting. Ted's Community and RSC believe that inner cities can become much stronger if "Neighborhood Heroes" come from within. Thus, future town halls will concentrate on supporting the creation of heroes at all levels in our neighborhoods.

Professional Staff and Volunteers:

Between the three organizations leading the Second Chance Town Halls, there are over 20 volunteers and staff working to make them the best they can for our entrepreneurs and the Orlando Community they so very much wish to represent. Volunteers who may wish to join should make a request at volunteers@realsecondchance.org.
